SHINICHI OSAWA 06.25.09
Noise Thursdays at Escobar features Shinichi Osawa straight from Japan to your eager ears. Since its summer time, the city is really heating up, in more ways than one. All the party people are coming out of the woodwork, and the places that are doing 18+ are surging. Escobar is one of these places. Thursday was rad as Shinichi went all out on the decks. His setup was pretty sick compared to some of the other dj's we have seen lately. He was running 3 Pioneer CDJ MK3s, a Pioneer EFX-500 box, Korg Kaoss pad and of course, the Mac lappy. But then midway through his set he busts out none other than the iPhone, plugs it in, and starts triggering samples. Pretty badass. Shinichi was pro, and even when the speakers went to shit, he kept a cool head. He was yelling commands in Japanese from his perch at the control station, and you could tell this dude knows what the hell is going on at all times.

VIBRAM FIVEFINGERS SHOES

Have you ever heard of these? I recently grabbed a pair of the sport and outdoor shoes known as Vibram FiveFingers. These shoes are like gloves for your feet and they are meant to recreate the sensation of going around barefoot.
I will say they are pretty hilarious looking! While I'm usually no stranger to attention-grabbing garb, I have to admit, I'm not sure if I could wear these around if they werent soo damn comfortable. I tried a single shoe on at the store and immediately told the clerk, "sweet mother of god, these are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn!" And I wasn't lying. I wear these every chance I get because they feel soo good. They're aimed at the outdoor sports crowd for running, hiking, water-sports type activities, but they're pretty much good for going anywhere. Other people will definitely look at you a little strange, however, and I would say if you couldn't get away with wearing flip flops to this particular public place, you might not want to try the FiveFingers there either.

I first learned about these shoes from the blog of author Tim Ferriss after reading his popular book, The 4-Hour Workweek, which I highly recommend. Well, I didn't actually read it, I listened to the audiobook because thats the way I do it. Read more about Vibram FiveFingers on Tim Ferriss' blog or on the FiveFingers website.

STEVE AOKI (DIM MAK) at Escobar 06.11.09
Last night Steve Aoki played Escobar right here in Houston Texas and told the crowd when he was done, that Houston was the best city he has played in Texas. After that wild show, I could see why. This crowd was out of control, and so was Steve. The lucky ones had the opportunity to drink from Steve's bottomless Grey Goose bottle, and the really lucky ones got a souvenir, such as Steve's sweaty-ass Dim Mak shirt that he threw into the crowd. The tunes were hard, the crowd was amped. This WAS one of the craziest banger parties I have been to in H-town, and I hope the crowd comes back out to make fun shit like this happen again. Check the album and the video. If it looks insane, thats because it absolutely was.

Creep Street™ Clothing
Creep Street™ is the child of 2 epic dudes with a dream and a dare to make it happen! I know because one of these epic dudes is an old buddy of mine and he sent me some goodies the other day, and I'm wearing them right now. My favorites are the Creep Street™ slap bracelets. These guys know how to make a RAD quality product. Hoodies, tees, trucker hats, panties, stickers and slap bracelets, what else could you want! The attention to detail, with little silkscreened logos and embroidered custom tags is amazing, these threads have it all together.
In their words: Creep Street™ isn't just a brand, it's a lifestyle! We combine everything from B-grade horror flicks to skanky chicks and rugged clicks. We love neon colors, zombies, skateboarding, music, 80's television, 90's movies, dinosaurs, hamburger helper, bad commercials and basically weird & creepy irrelevant things that were ultimately poor in taste. Our heroes include anybody that really doesn't give a f&ck and enjoys life. That is what makes us Creep Street™! Nostalgic enough to love, but creepy enough to take over the future. We combine dope graphics with dope colors, printed on quality threads. We pay attention to every freaking detail, just so you know these other cats are just plain busters.Available from the Creep Street™ website or through Karmaloop
